About Feederside

Last updated: November 2, 2026

Feederside is for anyone with a feeder outside the window and a question about it: which seed brings which birds, how to keep water open through a freeze, how often a feeder needs cleaning, what to do about squirrels, and who that bird on the perch is.

Each guide answers one of those questions in a few minutes of reading, and tells you where the answer came from, so you can look it up yourself.

The name on the guides

Corinne Tilden is a pen name. Feederside is written by a small team, and every guide goes out under that one name. We are not ornithologists or wildlife rehabilitators, and the site never claims to be.

Where the answers come from

  • The bird counts. Long-running counts kept by ornithology labs and the volunteers who report what comes to their feeders, season after season.
  • The agencies. Government wildlife and agriculture agencies, for the rules about wild birds and for bird flu.
  • The research. Published studies, each named in the guide that uses it.

A guide lists what it used and when it was read. Where those sources disagree, about a seed, a feeder or how far north a bird winters, the guide says so rather than picking a side quietly. And we never write up a sighting, a backyard or a story we did not have.

When we get it wrong

Write to us. We check what you sent, fix the guide, and note the change at its foot with the date.

Nothing here is for sale: Feederside carries no ads, no affiliate links and no sponsored posts. If that ever changes, the pages that carry them will say so, and the privacy notice will change first.
